The Dentists Insurance Company has developed the following reference guide to increase awareness of the applicable state regulations when considering dismissing a patient from your practice. Regulations for emergency care requirements following the dismissal of a patient vary by state. Failure to recognize and adhere to these regulations could result in potential claims of patient abandonment, depriving a patient of access to care and/or potential investigation and licensure action by your state dental licensing board.
